Idea No. 1: Spending time with the family

Enjoying a family holiday in Brittany is great. But finding things to keep the children occupied when it rains is even better! Good news: in Brittany, there’s a whole host of activities for families to enjoy with their children… whilst staying well sheltered from the rain!

The to-do list of family-friendly activities in Brittany:

  • Bowling: the youngest is aiming for their first strikes!
  • Sport: are you more into climbing or indoor football?
  • La Cité des Télécoms: enjoy a unique experience with the children on the immersive Radôme trail, themed around ‘Back to the Future’.
  • An escape game: a quirky and fun game where you try to escape to win an aperitif to share with the family! An escape game that’s, to say the least… festive.

Idea no. 2: Go to the cinema

Comedy or thriller? Drama or adventure? Whatever takes your fancy, a rainy day is the perfect opportunity to brush up on your film knowledge on the Pink Granite Coast. Settled comfortably into your seat, you’ll be off on a popcorn hunt (with salted caramel flavour). Better to be here than out and about: it goes without saying.

Practical information: Head to Les Baladins cinema, near the centre of Lannion, or to the Douron cinema in Plestinfor the next screening!

Idea No. 3: Discovering nature from indoors

Who said you have to be outdoors to uncover the secrets of Breton nature? Certainly not us! On the Pink Granite Coast, whilst the rain is pouring down, set off to meet the most beautiful creatures of the deep, reach for the stars at the Planetarium or play at being naturalists on Île Grande!

  • The Trégastel Marine Aquarium: Now here’s an aquatic adventure that’s just what you need! Young and old alike can enjoy guided tours, discovery sessions or encounters with marine animals from the English Channel, such as rays and dogfish, in this superb Breton aquarium.
  • The LPO station on Île Grande: Head to the Sept-Îles National Nature Reserve – specifically its museum – to explore a space entirely dedicated to the marine world. The highlight of the visit will be the breathtaking view of the colony of northern gannets! A great way to stay warm whilst keeping an eye on Brittany’s biodiversity.
  • The Brittany Planetarium: You’ll spend your holiday on the Pink Granite Coast with your head in the stars, particularly during the 10 astronomy shows offered by the Brittany Planetarium. Ready to journey to infinity and beyond?

Idea No. 4: Warm up with Breton traditions

Fermentation, ageing, brewing… If these terms are unfamiliar to you, it’s a sign that you need to visit a distillery on the Pink Granite Coast! After learning all the ins and outs of the craft, a tasting will take centre stage… There’s no doubt about it – Brittany will win you over!

Our favourite tours in the region:

* Alcohol abuse is dangerous to your health; please drink in moderation.

Idea no. 5: Try your hand at creative activities

If art comes naturally to you, roll up your sleeves – there’s plenty to get stuck into with the wide range of creative activities on offer in Brittany! Soap-making, cooking with seaweed or even pottery: our passionate craftspeople will reveal their trade secrets to the whole family – take our word for it!

Our favourites in Brittany:

  • La Savonnerie de l’Intendant: Not very good with your hands? Don’t worry – nobody’s going to give you a hard time: instead, we’ll teach you how to make your own soap during this activity! Colour, scent, texture: it really lathers up when it rains in Brittany!
  • Atelier Laurence H : Fancy getting your hands dirty with clay? Laurence H offers ceramics workshops and classes all year round in her cosy studio! You’ll also find beautiful creations there: unique ceramics and jewellery made from abalone shell and fish leather.

Lefloc’h Cooperage: In Lannion, discover Brittany’s only cooper: Benjamin Lefloch, master cooper and heir to a tradition of barrel-making! The cooperage is a partner of the Warenghem Distillery.

Atelier Moca: Fancy channeling your inner “Ghost” on a rainy afternoon? Why not try your hand at the art of pottery with your partner? What a thrill to see your creation come to life under your fingertips!

Idea No. 6: Treat yourself to a gourmet break

What could be better than popping into a great Breton eatery to stock up on local specialities? Whilst it’s pouring with rain outside, these delicious treats will warm you up… and your taste buds too! Far Breton or kouign-amann – which will you try first?

Tuck into a meal in Brittany:

  • Le Truc Café: Between tastings of local produce, have a go at the board games provided.
  • Café Théodore: This spot, with its far-flung feel, invites you to treat yourself to a culinary journey.

Idea No. 7: A journey through Brittany’s history

Did you know? Brittany – and more specifically the Pink Granite Coast – is a destination steeped in history. So when it rains, there’s only one thing for it: treat yourself to a good dose of culture… it’s sure to warm your heart! Visiting Brittany’s museums is bound to be your favourite thing to do.

Idea No. 8: Relax at a water park

If you’re not a fan of the rain but aren’t afraid of getting wet, head for a water park in Brittany! Indoor and (most importantly) heated, it’s the ideal place to keep in shape by doing a few lengths of the pool… Or to take it easy in the spa area. Which will you choose? We’ll leave you to make up your own mind!

It’s all here:

50 shades of rain

The Bretons have lived so closely with the rain for so long that they’ve had plenty of opportunity to study it thoroughly. Suffice to say that the Bretons have really got to grips with the rain! They’ve even coined a word for each of its nuances:

  • Glav bihan: Drizzle (which, incidentally, is said to give you a lovely complexion!).
  • Glav bras: Heavy rain.
  • Glav pill: driving rain.
  • Glav pill polos: A veritable deluge.

In fact, we’re here to help you pack a suitcase ready for any eventuality right here!
