Pouldouran, part of Brittany’s rural heritage!
In the 19th century, the village of Pouldouran prospered thanks to the flax industry. Numerous retting pits, remnants of the flax industry, have been restored along the walking trails. At the same time, Pouldouran took on the appearance of a small seaweed-harvesting port. With the construction of the quay wall in the second half of the 19th century, the village became a small seaweed-harvesting port. Boats unloaded the seaweed at Port Béni (in Pleubian), Pouldouran and as far as La Roche-Derrien, depending on the farmers’ requirements. This activity contributed to the town’s economic growth until the mid-20th century, when it came to an end. Yet the fishermen’s cottages still give it the appearance of a harbour…
