Castel Meur Chasm, Pointe du Château
A jagged coastline, fringed with reefs and dotted with rocky outcrops – such is the striking spectacle on offer around the Gouffre site.
Over time, the landscape has gradually changed. Quite complex wave phenomena have led to accumulations of pebbles that have stretched out to form tombolos.
Tombolos are transverse ridges of pebbles connecting the mainland to small islets.
At the Plougrescant site, there is a system of three pebble ridges enclosing two brackish water lagoons. These lagoons, which communicate with the marine environment via the pebble ridges, are of great botanical interest.
Erosion affects rocks differently depending on their composition. Here, the granite, which has weathered less, forms rock piles known as granitic chaos.
