Published on 13 March 2026

In April, it’s time to pack your foulies and swimming trunks and head to Brittany for an unusual holiday road trip along the Pink Granite Coast!

With spring just around the corner, the thermometer is showing higher temperatures. On the Pink Granite Coast, or Aod ar vein ruz for the real Bretons, the weather is good, the sky is blue and the scenery is sumptuous! So, whether you’re with the family and the kids, with friends or on your own, let’s get moving (Guingamp)!

Stage 1: Destination Lannion

for a day steeped in history!

Start your journey in Brittany at the end of the Léguer estuary, in the capital of Trégor: Lannion. This small, picturesque Breton village with a fascinating history plunges you back into the past, as evidenced by the multitude of half-timbered houses dating from the 15th century that proudly adorn the streets of its town centre. An enchanting holiday setting, worthy of a postcard! To find out more about this little town of character, head to the town’s Tourist Office, where you can meet Ella or Morgane (the fairy, perhaps?) for a guided tour.

Walk with them through the heart of the village, from the quays of Aiguillon to the Chapelle des Ursulines, via the 142 steps leading up to the Eglise de la Trinité de Brélévenez. Once you reach the top, you’ll be treated to a superb panoramic view of Lannion. The perfect photo spot to immortalise your family holiday in Brittany. Enjoy the view, it’s well deserved.

The day is drawing to a close and the climb up to the church has left you hungry for more? Then head down to the Bar de la Plage, this time for a gastronomic treat! While the children dare to take a dip in April (the brave!), let your gaze rest on the sea as far as the eye can see from the terrace, before settling on your delicious casserole of mussels marinière. On the deserted beach, shellfish and crustaceans… are on your plate in Brittany!

Stage 2: Head for Trédrez-Locquémeau

to visit the Domaine du Dourven with your family

After visiting our authentic Breton villages, continue your journey along the Breton coast towards the Domaine du Dourven. In April, it’s an ideal destination for a family day out in the great outdoors!

Located in the commune of Trédrez-Locquémeau on the Pink Granite Coast, the GR34 hiking trail passes through the heart of this enchanting natural area, which is at its best at this time of year. Temperatures are easing and the spring sunshine is giving the Pink Granite Coast a few pleasant degrees. Here, over 43 hectares, eclectic landscapes unfold before your eyes as you make your way between sea and forest.

Follow a small sandy path in the shade of the pine trees: it leads you straight to the little beach of Kirio, a small white dot in the middle of the blue sea and green forest. Now’s the time to get out your slice of kouign-amann and build up your strength! Sitting on the beach, you can see the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Yaudet on a clear day (which is likely in April in Brittany!).

Then take the customs path to the pointe du Dourven, from where you can see Île Milliau and the pointe de Bihit in Trébeurden. Finally, if the Breton rain comes, head for the contemporary art gallery at Le Dourven!

What if it rains or gets wet during your April holidays in Brittany?

What if the sun doesn’t shine during your stay? That’s quite surprising in Brittany… Don’t panic! We’ve got some great ideas for things to do during your holiday:

    • Sit on a covered terrace and enjoy a comforting hot chocolate (with a crêpe!)

Stage 3: Royal tour of the châteaux

of Trégor, the heart of Brittany

After a restful night, take the royal route to the next destination on your journey! Head for the south of Brittany, along the route of the most beautiful châteaux in the Trégor region. In April, under the Breton sun, the parks of these centuries-old architectural treasures abound in flowers and scents, to the delight of the whole family. For children, with its medieval châteaux, drawbridges and dungeons (and perhaps dragons?), Trégor is the perfect destination!

Immerse yourself in history with a visit to Château de Rosanbo. This monument has evolved over the years to become the masterpiece it is today. After the interior, head for the park to enjoy the welcome shade of the arched arbours* (the longest in France!).

After Rosanbo, head for the Château de Kergrist, the pearl of the Trégor region during your weekend in Brittany. While the château is a jewel, with its U-shape and octagonal tower, you’ll also be amazed by its sublime formal gardens, which have been awarded the “jardins remarquables” label. A few kilometres away, in the heart of an enchanted forest, the ruins of Tonquédec castle are waiting to be explored. An opportunity for the children to put their history lessons into practice!

Finally, this stay in the Middle Ages ends further north with a visit to the Château de la Roche Jagu and its enchanting 64-hectare park overlooking the Trieux estuary. Under the April sun, young and old alike can enjoy the cultural programme: workshops, exhibitions, concerts and shows.

Stage 4: Small town, big character

A day’s holiday in Tréguier

Continue your road-trip along the Pink Granite Coast by heading for the former capital of Trégor: Tréguier. Nestling in the heart of an estuary, visited by the Jaudy and Guindy rivers, this little town of character, one of the most beautiful on Brittany’s north coast, offers a journey back in time in every season!

Tréguier is one of the seven stages of the Breton pilgrimage Mon Tro Breizh® (or Tour of Brittany). Along the villages and beaches between Saint-Brieuc and Saint-Pol-de-Léon, myth has it that Bretons must complete this 2,000km loop in their lifetime to reach paradise. So it’s a good idea for the whole family to set off now, isn’t it?

When you arrive in the town, stand with your back to the port and look up to admire the two old shipowners’ towers that marked the entrance to Tréguier. Take a leisurely stroll to the town’s Tourist Office, where Yvette, your guide to the town centre, is waiting for you for the day. Follow her through the maze of cobbled streets and head for the Place Martray, decorated by some of the town’s 57 emblematic timber-framed houses. But the one that naturally catches your eye is Saint Tugdual’s Cathedral, adorned with its famous spire. Gothic in style, it’s one of the most beautiful in Brittany!

Stage 5: A green holiday

in the heart of Brittany’s iodine gardens

After this cultural and historical stopover, it’s time to get out into the countryside! Set off to discover the iodised parks and gardens of Brittany, a real invitation to contemplate and stroll in the April sunshine! All the more reason to enjoy this expedition into the heart of nature.

Near Tréguier, the Jardins de Kerdalo welcome you to Trédarzec. This estate, a veritable hymn to nature and poetry, takes you on a journey inspired by Italy and the exotic. Enjoy these precious moments with your family – that’s what holidays in Brittany are all about!

The Pellinec garden in Penvenan, which has also been awarded the “remarkable garden” label, is a must-see for nature lovers. It’s one of a kind, offering a variety of rare and unusual plants in an enchanting setting. Will you be able to find them during your visit to the heart of nature?

Stage 6: April holidays with a Breton flavour

at La Roche Derrien

The landscape of Brittany is dotted withPetites Cités de Caractère. Why not take a family trip to La Roche Derrien during your April holidays?

Built on a rocky promontory, La Roche Derrien dominates the Jaudy estuary. This much-coveted former stronghold is marked by the communities of craftsmen and tradesmen who have made it their home over the years. Get a feel for the town by following in their footsteps, particularly along the banks of the Jaudy where the chiffonniers once lived.

Then climb back up to the Chapelle du Calvaire, and enjoy the view over the town and the valley. Stroll through the streets of the Calvaire and the church, then head for Sainte-Catherine church. Fortified over the years, the remains of its former battles can still be seen. And yes, a trip to La Roche Derrien in Brittany is a real trip back in time!

In spring, and particularly in April, La Roche Derrien hosts a number of flea markets and medieval festivals. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the town’s rich historical heritage with family and friends, while sampling some of the local specialities. Yum!

Enjoy a unique experience, discovering the little town as you’ve never imagined it! You can discover its history in 360° immersion, thanks to the virtual reality available through the La Roche in 3D application. The whole family can quickly immerse themselves in life as it was in the Middle Ages!

Stage 7: Walk the unmissable paths of Ploumanac’h

What better way to round off your April break on the Pink Granite Coast than with a nature hike? Between land and sea, Brittany offers walkers landscapes to savour without moderation (as opposed to crêpes or kouign-amann…). With the first rays of sunshine, it’s the perfect time for a seaside walk.

To get started, head for the pretty town of Perros-Guirec, along the Ploumanac’h paths. The route follows the famous customs path that runs alongside the sea and some splendid beaches. Start your walk at the Chapelle de la Clarté, then make your way to the first stage: the beach of Saint-Guirec. If you fancy a swim, you’ll have to be daring! In April, the water barely exceeds 10 degrees. But the landscape is forgiving and the setting is ideal for building sandcastles with the family.

Leave the beach at Saint-Guirec and head for the lighthouse at Ploumanac’h, one of the most popular spots on the Pink Granite Coast. From its heights, contemplate the panoramic view over the Sept-Îles and the coast. The more inquisitive can even embark on a sea trip to the archipelago, one of Brittany’s great bird sanctuaries.

Finally, to discover other landscapes of the Pink Granite Coast, opt for the Granit Rose Tour and explore 40 must-see points of interest on themed tours.
