Land or sea, pancakes or galettes, comfort or a night out? On a road trip in Brittany, don’t choose! Climb into a van (and not a Vannes) and head for the Pink Granite Coast for a few days of fun from Lannion.

Festivals, wild landscapes, villages and beaches, here’s our itinerary as complete as a galette for your road trip in Brittany on the Pink Granite Coast!

Picking up the van in Lannion

Our first piece of advice for getting off to a good start on this road trip in Brittany, around the Pink Granite Coast: choose the ideal van! You’re getting ready to live, sleep and eat there for several days, so it’s best to take your time and find the right van for you! To do that, head for the Wevan rental agency in Lannion. Whether you’re on your own, a couple or a group of friends, there’s no doubt that you’ll find the perfect van for your road trip here!

Once you’ve chosen your new home, set off on a little tour of Lannion to get acclimatised. Practise manoeuvring through the narrow cobbled streets of this small village, then park near the square for a stroll. Wander between the timber-framed houses and stone manor houses, then climb the steps one by one to the superb Brélévenez church. Once you’ve visited this charming town, it’s time to head back to your rolling palace, the next stop on your journey: Penvénan!

Dancing at the Buguélès festival

After a few hours in your new home, we’re sure you’ll want to celebrate the start of your Brittany road trip! Unfortunately, the van may be a little cramped for space. So if you want to dance, head to the Festival de Buguélès, at the end of July in Penvénan. On the programme: contemporary music, world music and, of course, traditional Breton songs and Celtic music!

With the beach of the Buguélès peninsula and the sea in the background, make the most of the first night of your Brittany road trip to sample the warm, festive atmosphere of the region. You can even park your van on the festival camping site and move from the living room to the concert stage in a matter of seconds. Yes, that’s the joys of a van road trip in Brittany!

Discovering Yaudet and Dourven

Was it a short and busy night? Don’t worry, for the next stage of your road trip in Brittany, we’re taking you there to get some rest. At Le Yaudet, you’ll find everything you need to enjoy a moment of calm, with your feet in the water. The only effort you’ll need to make is to climb a small hill at the end of which stands a magnificent chapel with breathtaking views. Then head back down to the estuary and make yourself comfortable on the sand. Be careful, though, if you fall asleep – the sun can beat down in Brittany too!

Now that you’ve had a good night’s sleep, it’s time to work up an appetite! The good news is that at the crêperie du Yaudet, you can recharge your batteries with a delicious galette. Finished eating? Then the day can begin, with a short hike to the Pointe du Dourven. The exploration begins with a visit to Kirio beach, followed by a stroll between cliffs and maritime pines to the Pointe. Along the way, art lovers can visit the Galerie du Dourven before continuing along the footpath and taking in the view of Locquémeau harbour.

Climbing the Great Rock

If your road trip in Brittany is all about getting closer to nature, we know the perfect place for your next adventure. Fire up the van and buckle up, you’re invited to meet some local species at the Grand Rocher site in Plestin-les-Grèves. Park your mobile home in the site’s large car park and off you go for a 45-minute stroll between beaches, forests, caves and indented coastlines. Follow the signposted path to the Grand Rocher viewpoint, one of the jewels of the Pink Granite Coast!

As you make your way along, keep an eye out for more than 300 endemic plant species from Brittany. After passing the small beach of Saint-Efflam, you finally arrive on the Grand Rocher. Sit back for a moment and admire the view over the “Lieue de Grève” and the sea. Nearby, a cave above the water is home to several colonies of bats. And while it’s best not to wake them, we advise you to wait until nightfall to see them take flight.

Psst, while you’re on your road trip, take your best selfies! Check out our top 10 photo spots on the Pink Granite Coast!

Getting some height at Plougras

Before setting off on your road trip in Brittany, we should have warned you that the region is not all beaches, harbours and sailors, there are also more earthy landscapes! To discover them, head to the Goariva site in Plougras. From the 314-metre-high summit, you can enjoy an exceptional panorama of inland Brittany. Moors as far as the eye can see, the rocks of the Monts d’Arrée, a few fields and ponds: these are the backdrops of the Côte de Granit Rose in its earthy version.

But that’s not all! As well as offering a breathtaking view of the Armorique Regional Nature Park, the Goariva site is great fun, perfect if you’re doing your road trip in Brittany with the whole family. Along the route through the site you’ll find games, discovery areas and plenty of activities. So don’t just pack swimming costumes and oilskins for this trip, you’ll also need hiking boots!

Follow the light of Lézardrieux

If you get lost on your road trip in Brittany, here’s our secret: follow the light of a lighthouse! If you’re lucky, it might lead you to one of the most beautiful lighthouses on the Pink Granite Coast: the Bodic lighthouse. This spaceship-like building dominates the Trieux estuary, offering a breathtaking view of the sea, the island of Bréhat and the surrounding countryside.

Although you can’t visit the lighthouse around it, you can go for a nice walk along the estuary. Carried along by the winds and sea spray, take a breath of fresh, iodised air around the Lézardrieux peninsula on one of Brittany’s most beautiful hiking trails.

An adventure in Plougrescant

Are you ready for a real adventure involving chasms, castles, islands, unusual accommodation and landscapes at the end of the world? If so (and we’re sure you are), head for Plougrescant and its famous chasm! Park your van in the Gouffre car park, and the rest of the adventure is on foot. Your first task: walk between the rocks and moors to the chasm. Then continue along the coastline and beaches in search of Pointe du Château. When you arrive at the Pointe du Château, you’ll probably think it’s a mirage. But no, between two strangely shaped rocks stands a small stone house, giving the scenery a legendary appearance.

So many adventures, it’s tiring! So for once, we invite you to take a break from your Brittany road trip in a van and find yourself a slightly more sedentary pied-à-terre: a yurt. This semi-nomadic dwelling is ideal for ending your day as an adventurer!

Put on your flip-flops at Trévou

If it’s been a week since your last festival and you’re already feeling the need to (re)party, there’s always an opportunity in the region! For dancing and discovering new musical groups, take the road to Trévou-Tréguignec and its “Chausse tes tongs” festival, held at the end of July. Like the Festival de Buguélès, you’ll find a fine selection of electronic and world music, as well as a number of local groups and singers.

So if you took off your flip-flops to drive the van on your Brittany road trip, it’s time to put them back on! Beach and swimming during the day, concerts and dancing in the evening, this is the perfect recipe for a stopover in Trévou-Tréguignec.

Relaxing in Pleumeur-Bodou

Even on a road trip in Brittany, you’ll see some superb scenery, meet new people and taste some delicious food… It’s not a relaxing trip, so treat yourself to a moment of calm and relaxation by the water. We suggest you get away from it all for a few days on Ile Grande! There’s no need to take a boat: a bridge links the island to the mainland. The programme for this island stopover includes swimming, hiking in the marshes and along the coast, sunbathing and birdwatching.

In the evening, after exploring the length and breadth of Ile Grande, return to land for a convivial evening at the Auberge de Crec’h Bec and a well-deserved night at Tonn’o Loisirs, in a wooden dwelling, barrel or kota. As well as sleeping in the heart of nature in a charming little cabin, you can enjoy the sauna and jacuzzi. In just one night, you’ll be invigorated and road trip fatigue will be a thing of the past!

A last look at Pointe de Bihit

Fancy one last breath of fresh, iodised air before your Brittany road trip comes to an end? If so, we suggest you head for the Pointe de Bihit. Sitting amongst the heather, with your hair blowing in the wind and the sea in front of you, you’re looking at a condensed version of Brittany. One last walk, one last photo, one last time with your feet in the water, on the Pointe de Bihit, bid farewell to the Pink Granite Coast.

But don’t be sad, we’re going to let you in on a secret: most (almost all) of the travellers who have taken to the roads of Brittany have returned the following year!

Breton immersion

An immersion in Breton culture

During your road trip, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in Breton culture. It’s like a force that surrounds you: its language, music and legends are present at every moment of the day. So be Breizh! Join us for a fest-noz or a storytelling tour of natural, historic or legendary sites. Look out for the korrigans!
