This 160 hectare area represents a unique natural heritage inherited from the Breton farming system at the beginning of the last century. Its value is explained both by the physical conditions of the environment (humidity, poor soil, acidity) and by human activities (grazing, mowing, afforestation, etc.).
The successive inventories and registrations culminated in 2016 with the site being classified as a Regional Nature Reserve. The originality of the site lies in the fact that 36% of its owners are public and 64% private. The latter have all volunteered to take part in a collaborative development project. The aim is to protect the natural heritage while maintaining human activities that are compatible with the conservation of the mosaic of habitats.
A variety of environments means a wealth of flora and fauna. To date, 1,200 animal and plant species have been inventoried, including some that are rare or protected.
Another special feature is the fragmentation of the reserve into 98 non-contiguous parcels. This fragmented perimeter is one stage in a global, long-term process.
Kerliziri car park: access to picnic room, toilets and covered observatory, start of 4.5 km hiking trail, 3.5 km treasure hunt and 2 km ‘Plounérin Special Unit Investigation’ interpretation trail.
Car park on the seawall: access to fishing area with 3 pontoons.
Lann Droën car park: covered shelter, departure point for 5.5 km hiking trail.
