First dedicated to Notre-Dame-des-Neiges and then to the Holy Trinity, it is one of the most important religious buildings in the Trégor region, with its imposing 142-step staircase and several landings lined with pretty little granite houses.
Built above the Stanco valley, it affords a fine panoramic view of the town from the cemetery platform that surrounds it.
Brélévenez means ‘Mount of Joy’, which is thought to be the rallying cry of the Knights Templar, to whom its foundation is often attributed around 1190, although this remains a mere hypothesis and has never been confirmed.
It has undergone several alterations over the centuries. Made of granite and schist, it has a beautiful Romanesque crypt dating from the 12th century, as well as the choir and the oldest parts of the nave. The bell tower on the façade was built in the 15th century. It is therefore a transitional church with Romanesque reminiscences.
