Stopover in TréguierHistory of the port

Quick Visit: A Stop-off in Tréguier

Ajouter aux favoris

In Tréguier, you can travel back in time as you follow the river. Once navigable as far as La Roche-Derrien, the River Jaudy guided ships right into the heart of the town, just a stone’s throw from the sea. Stone quays, stop-offs at low tide, sailors’ cottages: the lives of seafarers and wealthy merchants are brought to life step by step.
This short guided tour allows you to discover Tréguier’s iconic sites quickly and easily. Book your flash tour of Tréguier now for an authentic experience!

Discover Tréguier and one of Brittany’s oldest ports

Accompanied by Ella or Yvette, explore the lower part of the town to discover a neighbourhood that has also left its mark on the town’s history: its harbour.  A welcoming and strategically important harbour, which enabled Tréguier to flourish, as evidenced by the beautiful shipowners’ houses found around its shores. Now a marina, Tréguier retains a certain reputation in the sailing world, thanks in particular to the Boréal shipyard, known worldwide for its luxury aluminium sailing yachts.

A stop-off in Tréguier…

The River Tréguier was once navigable as far as La Roche-Derrien, 15 km away.
Situated at the confluence of the Guindy and Jaudy rivers, the town of Tréguier is more easily accessible: it lies just 7 km from the sea and ships can anchor – even at low tide – off the town. Whilst in the 15th century most ports made do with wooden and earthen structures,
Tréguier’s sturdy quays, built of cut stone and capable of accommodating merchant ships, were something of an exception.
We invite you to discover the daily lives of these ‘seafarers’ as well as their traditional homes.
