Immerse yourself in Lannion during the interwar period, where geometric façades and stylised décor lend the town an Art Deco feel

Discovering Lannion and its architecture

The history of the town of Lannion is brought to life through its architecture, with a particular focus on Art Deco. This artistic movement, which emerged in the 1910s and reached its peak in the 1920s, has left its mark on the town. From the Galeries d’Aiguillon, via Rue des Augustins and the market halls, right through to Place du Marchallac’h, you’ll be introduced to stylised buildings and architectural details.

In the Art Deco era in Lannion…

Between the two world wars, Lannion underwent a transformation and embraced the Art Deco style, an artistic movement that emerged at the start of the 20th century and became widely popular in the 1920s. Stemming from the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, this modern style made its mark with its geometric lines and stylised motifs. In Brittany, Art Deco found particular resonance with the Seiz Breur group.

These artists and craftspeople sought to modernise Breton creativity by drawing on traditional folk arts, which they reinterpreted in architecture and the decorative arts.

Their ambition: to enhance everyday life without losing sight of their roots.

This short tour invites you to discover traces of Art Deco in Lannion and the influence of the Seiz Breur on the urban landscape.
