Between land and sea: the Bizien estuary at Pouldouran

Ajouter aux favoris

Explore a hidden and unspoilt side of Brittany! During your holiday on the Pink Granite Coast, treat yourself to a guided tour of the Bizien estuary at Pouldouran, La Roche-Jaudy. Nestled between land and sea, this former seaweed-harvesting port in the Côtes-d’Armor invites you on a genuine nature outing, ideal for birdwatching and discovering a rich rural heritage as the tides ebb and flow.

The site

Equally popular with birds and walkers seeking nature and a glimpse of a more hidden side of Brittany, the Bizien estuary was once home to a small harbour for goémoniers, the seaweed gatherers. Nestled at the head of the estuary lies the charming little village of Pouldouran, which has retained its charm and character. Between land and sea, fresh water and salt water, the landscape changes with the tides and is home to a unique array of flora and fauna.
Several walking trails start from the ‘maison des talus’ and the flax-drying sheds, allowing visitors to explore not only the estuary and the Bizien valley but also a rich rural heritage featuring sunken paths, embankments, stone walls and other flax-drying sheds.

A little gem of history and nature watching

The heart of the estuary lies where fresh water meets salt water. Plants and animals have adapted to this ever-changing environment in this former small seaweed-harvesting port. Explore the site to discover them and learn more about the area’s history. This outing is ideal for birdwatching!
