The port of Locquémeau is a mixed marina and fishing port. The marina section, managed by the town hall, is an organised mooring area. It is a market place for shellfish gatherers who harvest shellfish there.
Clearly visible opposite the fishing port, the Maison de la Mer, opened in 2009 at the request of professionals, has a dual function.
It houses two cold rooms provided by the Côtes d'Armor Chamber of Commerce and Industry, one dedicated to fish and the other to shellfish.
It also has six fish tanks shared by professional shore fishermen.
They use them to soak European and Japanese clams collected from a wide variety of locations, ranging from the banks of the Guer to Yaudet and Goas Treiz in Trébeurden to Mont Saint Michel.
They also store cockles caught mainly in the Trégor beds.
The fish and shellfish landed in Locquémeau and stored there are sent several times a week to the Saint-Quay Portrieux fish market, where they are sold.
Direct sales of shellfish are prohibited at the Maison de la Mer, so fishing products are sold exclusively between approved professionals.
The Maison de la Mer is not open to the public; it is a building reserved for professionals.
