The parish church of Plouaret is dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle or Notre-Dame-de-Consolation. It was founded by the Order of the Hospitallers of St John. The original building dates from the end of the 15th century, but its heterogeneous architecture bears witness to its multi-century history.

The cemetery originally located around the church was moved to the outskirts of the village in 1860-1861. That same year, Lannion sculptor Yves Hernot created a calvary for the new cemetery. The old churchyard, which had been abandoned, was demolished in 1872 to enlarge the square.

Between 1903 and 1905, the church was restored by Jules Morvan, an architect from Saint-Brieuc, using stones salvaged from the Saint-Maudez chapel. The north side was pierced with windows in the same style as the rest of the building.

Inside the church, you can admire the remarkable sandstones of the Keranrais chapel in the north aisle, a finely sculpted sacristy and stoup, an ornate 16th-century baptismal font, a 17th-century pulpit, a standing lectern and the 18th-century choir stalls. Among the statues are an interesting statue of "Christ in bonds" and a Pietà or Mater dolorosa. One of the modern stained glass windows depicts an accident at a water mill: the miller is saved by the action of Saint-Yves. Finally, one of the banners was created to commemorate those who died for France in 1914-1918.
Since 1887, the south porch has sheltered the sculpted group known as the "Anguiped Horseman" from the elements. This statue is a remarkable piece of Gallo-Roman religious heritage in Brittany.

Plouaret church has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1907.
