At the heart of the Hundred Years’ War in Brittany
With the stained-glass window as my only visual reference, the voice takes me on a journey through a sound landscape that screams realism. In small, kaleidoscopic bursts, we hear about the Hundred Years’ War. And the one between Charles de Blois and Jean de Montfort for the Succession of the Duchy of Brittany. But also the fate of the men and women held hostage by this interminable war. Taking refuge in the church on a summer’s day in 1347, this young mother returns from the dead to tell us their story.
A journey through time
Horse steps approaching, cannon fire, battering rams in the church door, breaking glass, knights crossing swords, a few silences too… Here I am, literally transported back to the Middle Ages, in the church among all those panicked inhabitants at the heart of the raging battle… Emotion, too, as I listen to a singularly beautiful song, enhanced by binaural sound.
“Who loses, who wins?
A timeless sensory experience
I stay for a while with my headphones on at the end of this experience. It’s as if I need a moment to regain my sense of time.
As I emerge from my bubble, the sounds outside resurface. The laughter of children, a passing car, everything seems to appear more clearly to me: as if I had become aware of the importance of hearing in my perception of the world.
