Kayaking in Plougrescant

Today is shaping up to be a big day! With our gear packed, we’re on our way to Plougrescant, an ideal destination for family kayaking. We love discovering new places in unusual ways! It couldn’t be more original! I’ve decided to take you along on my day in Plougrescant!

An exceptional place

Arriving in the morning, we were quickly overwhelmed by the surroundings. We are regular hikers. We then set off on a short loop to get a closer look at the chasm. This excursion, it has to be said, was more than special! The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks, the wind and, above all, the view. The sheer mass of boulders on the beach let our imaginations run wild. In the distance, we observe a group of kayakers returning from their trip. The little family loves the water, but we’ve never tried kayaking before. This afternoon, it’s our turn!

Kayak rental

The weather is fine and the family is happy! So we rent a four-person kayak from a friendly, experienced man. From there, we put on our life jackets. Naturally, we take the time to familiarize ourselves with the basics of kayak navigation, as this is a first for us. We learn how to hold our paddle, how to adjust our seats for greater comfort and how to steer our kayak safely. The weather’s nice and warm, perfect for a trip out to sea, don’t you think?

A few valuable rules for navigation

Before setting sail, our guide gives us some key information for safe navigation. Here’s a quick summary:

  • Wear a lifejacket
  • Respect navigation zones
  • Do not sail alone

Boarding to everyone’s delight

We embarked from the customs hut and our guide directed us to the various small islands along the coast, Pors hir, Ile d’Er and Ile Loaven being on the itinerary. We start paddling, timidly at first, then more confidently as the minutes go by. We learn to steer our kayak and avoid the waves, having fun like children. Thanks to the guide’s invaluable advice, we reach the islands without too much difficulty. From there, we enjoy a succession of magnificent landscapes – a real jewel of the region!

Time to return

On the way back, we have several options. Head for the Pointe du Château to see the granite from a different angle, or visit one of the oyster and fish-farming ports. The club’s added bonus is that it also adapts to the tides, offering rides at low tide!

Get in the water! It’s time to get out and enjoy!
