In search of theErnest Renan's secret manuscript

Treasure hunt in the heart of Tréguier

It is said that after the death of Ernest Renan, a famous writer, one of his manuscripts was hidden in his home town. It’s up to us to find it! Our quest takes us to the Tréguier Tourist Office to pick up a 2.0 treasure hunt that will help us discover this Petite Cité de Caractère as we wander through the narrow streets and historic monuments, all the while having fun.

The secret manuscript

To begin the treasure hunt, we’re told that, despite years of fruitless research, the famous writer’s descendants have decided to reveal the existence of this secret manuscript and offer a reward to anyone who finds it.
We’re players, so we’re forming teams. Alexis with Lise and Ernest, hold Ernest! I’m with Maÿliss and Léa. Between us, it’s who finds the secret manuscript before the others. So we check the batteries in our smartphones! We’re ready to scan the QR codes that will guide us through the history of Tréguier and its illustrious characters.

Enigmas and challenges at every stage

So we find our way around thanks to QR codes that reveal quizzes, challenges and enigmas at every stage. Each time, there are additional clues to help us decipher the mystery phrase that will lead us to the secret manuscript, which has been hidden for almost 130 years now. Maÿliss and Léa often come on holiday to the Trégor region, and they go wild when they find the answers, and sometimes we even run to keep up with our friends. As for me, I’m discovering this episcopal city with joy and amusement!

Tréguier, Petite Cité de Caractère

We discover Tréguier around every bend, the timber-framed houses and monuments are truly authentic. “That’s what makes Tréguier a Petite Cité de Caractère de Bretagne”, Maÿliss explains mischievously! In fact, she’s connected to her smartphone, looking for clues on the Tourist Office website. “Hey, this is too easy! But too good!” launches Léa.

Last riddle for fun

We’ve hit the nail on the head! Over the course of the route, the riddles and the quizzes, our general knowledge has grown. One more QR code and we’ll be able to decipher the coded message that will lead us to the secret manuscript. As we read the last riddle, we hear our friends, but opponents of the day: Alexis, Lise and Ernest exclaiming: “They’re over there! Quickly, we continue on our way, thinking about this last challenge! Suddenly, Léa exclaims…

And then, sharing with her tribe

We met up with the rest of the tribe at the Tourist Office. Then it was back through Tréguier and its narrow streets, with a fresh perspective, to have a drink on a terrace. There we could talk about our adventure: “Le Seum! I spent 5 minutes looking for the 3rd QR code when it was right in front of me! But, too good the riddle on”…. Shhh !

To you now !

I’m not telling you if we’ve found Ernest Renan’s secret manuscript. But, if we have, we may have hidden it, again, so that you and your children, your friends, finally your tribe can also enjoy discovering Tréguier and its treasures.

<That’s it! I’ve got the answer, we’re too good! Yes! The manuscript is ours now!
