A touring holiday

The Vélomaritime cycle route takes you through the Pink Granite Coast and its picture-postcard landscapes, from rocky shores and wild moors to cliffs, as well as its historic towns and their rich heritage.

By exploring some of the alternative routes, you can also discover some of the lesser-known sites, whilst still breathing in the fresh sea air. So don’t hesitate any longer – treat yourself to this immersive and eco-friendly journey to discover unspoilt nature and authentic villages!

Arrival

You’ll be welcomed in the afternoon in Lézardrieux, a charming little village situated on the Trieux estuary, where you’ll spend your first two nights.

Take a short stroll to explore the harbour and breathe in the salty sea air of the English Channel, which will be with you throughout the week.

Dinner at your leisure in the village and overnight stay in a 2-star hotel

The wild peninsula

(47 km)

To kick off the day, the Vélomaritime takes you through the charming Trégor countryside before quickly turning off to reach the coast at Lanmodez. Following this alternative route, you’ll cycle as close as possible to the coast, enjoying magnificent views of the mouth of the Trieux, the island of Bréhat and the foreshore dotted with islets, which offers a landscape that changes constantly with the tides and the light.

At the very northern tip of the peninsula, you’ll discover the astonishing Sillon de Talbert, in the heart of a nature reserve. You can venture on foot along this sand and pebble spit, over 3 km long, with the sea on either side and a breathtaking view of the imposing Héaux de Bréhat lighthouse.

After a picnic break on the shores of Pors Rand beach, you’ll discover the magnificent panorama of Créac’h Maout, surrounded by coastal moorland, before reaching the village of Pleubian, where a remarkable outdoor Calvary pulpit stands next to the church.

Back on the Vélomaritime cycle route, you’ll reach the charming town of Tréguier with its cathedral and magnificent Gothic cloister, surrounded by narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses

Overnight stay with half-board in a three-star hotel.

The Ajoncs Coast

(49 km)

Today’s route will take you right up close to the rugged gorse-covered coast. As you approach the mouth of the Trieux, you’ll discover the small oyster-farming port of La Roche Jaune before passing along the edge of the Baie de l’Enfer, which is often very calm but owes its name to a terrible shipwreck recounted by the poet Anatole Le Braz.

Take note of the striking Chapel of Saint Gonery and its bell tower as you pass through the village of Plougrescant, before heading towards the Pointe du Château and the majestic Gouffre site. A stop is a must to walk along the coastal path through a landscape sculpted by the elements, just a stone’s throw from the restaurant where you’ll be having lunch.

As you set off again, your route winds its way through rocks, beaches and moorland before reaching Buguélès, a charming little village from the top of which you’ll be treated to a lovely view of the gorse-covered coast. At low tide, you can cross directly across Pellinec Cove to reach Port Blanc, guarded by the Sentinel Rock facing its archipelago of islets. Take the time to explore the surprising chapel, which happens to be half-buried, before tackling the final stretch of today’s stage, which takes you to the outskirts of Perros-Guirec.

In the heart of the Pink Granite Coast

(34 km)

This morning, you’ll meet at Trestraou beach in Perros-Guirec to set sail for the 7 Îles nature reserve for a two-hour guided tour. You’ll be able to explore the Pink Granite Coast from the sea before the boat heads for the bird sanctuary, where you can witness the spectacle of northern gannets, puffins and other birds that nest here.

You’ll then get back on your bikes and head to Ploumanac’h, where you’ll stop for a picnic and explore the coast’s most imposing blocks of Pink Granite, scattered amongst a landscape of coastal moorland. Around the famous Mean Ruz lighthouse, which faces the 7 Iles, the rocks sometimes take on evocative shapes such as an upturned bottle, a rabbit or even a witch.

As you join the Vélomaritime cycle route, you’ll then discover the Tourony Peninsula and its beach fringed with pink rocks, facing Costaérès Castle, which stands proudly on its islet in the middle of Sainte Anne Bay.  Towards the end of the route, you’ll discover the megalithic sites of Kerguntuil and Saint-Uzec before reaching Trébeurden, where you’ll spend the night.

Overnight stay with half-board in a 2-star hotel

Lannion Bay

(17km)

Before leaving Trébeurden, be sure to explore the imposing granite rock formations of Le Castel, opposite Milliau Island. At low tide, you can walk across to the island for a stroll.

You then hop on your bikes and follow the Trébeurden coastal road, punctuated by the splendid panorama of Pointe de Bihit, overlooking Lannion Bay. This short stage then takes you to the town of Lannion, where you’ll arrive via the Brélévenez neighbourhood with its famous staircase and church overlooking the town.

After lunch at a restaurant, a guided tour awaits to explore Lannion’s historic centre. You’ll wander through a maze of cobbled streets and alleyways in the company of our tour guide, who will reveal the secrets of the superb half-timbered or slate-roofed houses, reminders of the town’s medieval past and its prosperity during the Renaissance. In the late afternoon, you’ll visit Brittany’s largest distillery, founded in Lannion in 1900, followed by a tasting session.

The Grève League

(27km)

On this final day, head for the vast beach at Saint Michel, overlooked by the Grand Rocher. Leave your bikes for a moment to walk the 84 metres to the summit and enjoy a breathtaking view of the bay.

You’ll then cycle along the Plestin coastal road, right next to its headlands, beaches and little coves. As you approach the mouth of the Douron, you’ll come across the Hogolo thermal baths, set amongst moorland and maritime pines, facing Locquirec Bay. This remarkable Gallo-Roman site was built over 2,000 years ago!

In the afternoon, your walk ends at the Port of Toul an Héry. A short bus transfer will take you back to Lannion and then on to Lézardrieux.

Do you have an extra day?

Paimpol and Bréhat Island

(26 km)

The day after you arrive in Lézardrieux, we suggest you head for Paimpol, a charming seaside town with a harbour in its historic centre. After taking the time to stroll through its narrow streets, head to the Pointe de l’Arcouest to board a ferry to Bréhat Island.

The crossing takes just a few minutes to reach the island of flowers and pink rocks. You’ll have several hours to explore this little corner of paradise on foot and enjoy a meal of your choice, either at a restaurant in the island’s village or by having a picnic at one of the many spots the island offers for a break to take in the scenery. Don’t miss a climb up to Saint Michel Chapel, the island’s highest point, and a visit to the Paon Lighthouse at the northernmost tip of the island, set against a particularly rugged and wild backdrop of pink granite.

In the late afternoon, you’ll return to the mainland and hop back on your bikes to cycle back to Lézardrieux for the night.
