At the entrance to Tréguier, where the Jaudy and Guindy rivers meet, the smell of warm malt and hops wafts through the air. Since 2006, Brasserie Philomenn has been ploughing its way with rare authenticity, transforming the barley and water of the Trégor region into beers of character. Between festive tradition and brewing innovation, the team here share two decades of adventure, their attachment to the local area and the pleasure of creating products that bring people together. An encounter on tap, with a little extra soul on the Pink Granite Coast.

Parole de Breizh invites you to discover the Pink Granite Coast through encounters with the people who live Brittany every day, shaping it, cultivating it and passing it on. Craftsmen, artists, producers… above all, local people who love Trégor, who talk about their region and explain why, here, we like to cultivate the essentials on the Pink Granite Coast.

In the Côtes-d’Armor region, there are certain institutions that leave a lasting impression on the taste buds. Brasserie Philomenn is one of them. Founded in 2006 in Minihy-Tréguier, it had a simple mission: to accompany fest-noz and Breton festivals. Twenty years on, and 20 years of brewing the identity of the Trégor region to the brim, the brewery is celebrating two decades of transforming craft beer into a real link between local people. Meet the 11-strong team who put the quality of “real taste” ahead of quantity.

Pioneers of local drinking

the compass anchor

Long before the explosion of microbreweries in France, Philomenn was already the very first brewery in the Trégor region. There was no complex business plan back then, just a militant desire to offer a local alternative to industrial beers. Drink Breton, to support the local economy and promote our region. The adventure began with Philomenn Rousse, a founding recipe, closely followed by the Blonde, marking the start of an artisanal epic that continues to thrill the taste buds of true beer lovers.

In 2014, success led the team to move into a historic building in Tréguier. This move to the water’s edge marked Philomenn’s entry into a new era, while keeping its feet in the tides of the Jaudy.

We built our business on the idea of drinking something different and drinking locally. Today, our six permanent beers are the pillars of our reputation throughout the department.

Julien

If the foundations are solid, the Philomenn spirit loves adventure. Since 2017, the brewery has been actively involved in the French brewing revolution. Alongside the classic range (Triple Spoum, Stout, Blanche…), ephemeral brews see the light of day every month: explosive IPAs, sour beers or barrel-aged beers. These bold creations allow us to explore new taste horizons, constantly pushing back the boundaries of traditional know-how to surprise enthusiasts looking for something new.

From tradition to La Bier-volution

Innovation stays true to the land. For these creations, the brewers use local ingredients:

  • Organic hops grown near Guingamp.
  • Aromatic herbs from Trévou-Tréguignec.
  • Barrels from the Warenghem distillery in Lannion.

Today, production is deliberately stabilised at 5,000 hectolitres to guarantee the consistency of each brew.

As the company celebrates its twentieth anniversary, there’s no question of resting on its laurels. The team plans to release between 12 and 14 new products this year, exploring hops and yeasts that have never been tried before. The season will end on a high note in September with the traditional brewery party, a moment of sharing to thank those who have followed them from the start.

Creating links, from the tank to the counter

The best of Trégor

In the summer of 2025, the brewery took a major step forward by opening its Tap Room. Much more than a simple tasting bar, it’s a veritable social laboratory. It’s here that dialogue takes place: the brewers bring out 38-litre micro-tanks to test new ideas and gather customers’ opinions directly.

No more middlemen: the brewer serves his creation, observes the delighted (or surprised!) faces and adjusts his recipes. This human touch is the driving force behind the company. For those who want to get to the bottom of the brewing secrets, the guided tours organised with the Tourist Office from April to November give you a close-up view of this precision and patient craft.

Trégor is not a label, it’s a sentimental reality: a geography of taste!

Julien

For Brasserie Philomenn, Trégor is a heritage, a sentimental and logistical reality. Distribution is deliberately restricted to the Côtes-d’Armor and Brittany regions. Self-distribution is a strong choice: controlling delivery means staying close to customers, whether they are wine merchants, restaurateurs or private individuals. This privileged short distribution route guarantees optimum freshness and an unshakeable relationship of trust, anchoring each bottle in an approach based on solidarity and sustainability.

Even gastronomy gets involved. What’s the signature product? Philomennée Tourbée. With its earthy peat-smoked malt, it makes a masterful pairing with a platter of local oysters. It’s a daring marriage of earth and iodine, a clear-cut taste that perfectly illustrates the brewery’s DNA: not seeking consensus, but emotion. It’s a unique experience that shakes things up, offering a tasting experience that’s raw, wild and typically Breton.

Cultivating the essential

What does “Cultivating the essential” mean to you?

Cultivating what’s essential means staying true to our DNA: authenticity, teamwork and a taste for a job well done, without ever stopping us from being creative. At Philomenn, we don’t try to be everywhere, we just try to be right.

Get to the heart of Philomenn!

If you like to taste it, come and find out how it’s made “from grain to pint”. From the brewing vats to the secrets of our recipes, we’ll tell you (almost) everything.
