Parole de Breizh, invites you to discover the Côte de Granit Rose through encounters with those who live Brittany, transform it and cultivate it. These ambassadors are craftsmen, artists, producers… but above all, inhabitants of the Trégor. They love the Côte de Granit Rose and explain why growing the essentials is so important!

Hervé Nivet is director of the Centre Nautique de Port-Blanc à Penvénan and has been passionate about sailing since his youth.</Born and bred in the region, Hervé started this activity at the age of 8 thanks to the initiative of his teacher, Trélévern. It was an instant click for him. He vividly remembers the day when, during a school sailing trip, he completed a course with his friend Yannick that filled them with pride. It was this experience that led him to take up sailing lessons! Hervé then became fully involved in sailing, taking part in numerous events right up to the age of 17. Unfortunately, health problems forced him to put an end to the competition. However, to stay close to his passion, he turned to coaching and teaching sailing.

A professional vocation

Hervé Nivet has followed a rich and varied career path. Alongside his university studies, he was hired by the departmental sailing committee. He took charge of training young instructors and organised touring sailing sessions across the Côtes-d’Armor region. With a trailer loaded with boats and a safety boat, he travels the inland waters of the department, offering sailing lessons in the most remote corners. This experience enables him not only to cover his region, but also to share his passion with young people from all backgrounds. His commitment to schoolchildren and instructors was such that he became a trainer at departmental, regional and then national level on a boat called ‘l’équipe’. After several years at this pace, he decided to settle down and apply for the position of Director of the Port-Blanc Nautical Centre, where he has been for 22 years now!
I took the voice of training, which allowed me to continue to follow the sail but from the other side of the barrier.
The Port Blanc nautical centre
Under the direction of Hervé Nivet, the Centre Nautique de Port-Blanc has established itself as a benchmark for sailing. Offering activities for all ages, from 4 to 97, the centre is a place where the passion for sailing is accessible to all. Every year, Hervé and her team welcome hundreds of youngsters for sailing classes, taking advantage of the centre’s adapted facilities and a stretch of water secured by 12 bays. The water sports centre doesn’t just offer summer courses. All year round, schoolchildren from the region and beyond come to learn about sailing in a fun and educational setting. Groups are welcomed in a carefully orchestrated way, with particular attention paid to safety and teaching methods. The instructors, led by Hervé, are trained to create a welcoming, family environment.

The Chinese portrait of Hervé
If you éted a élément? “If you could think of a season, you could think of spring. If you could think of a word, you could think of ice. “Ice” And if you named a Breton animal? Weasel”

Cultivating the essential
What does the phrase « Cultiver l’essentiel » inspire in you? For Hervé Nivet, “cultivating the essential” means concentrating on what’s really important: creating a welcoming environment, passing on useful skills and developing strong human relationships. At the Port-Blanc nautical centre, Hervé ensures that every visitor feels at home. Hervé’s philosophy is to make sailing accessible and rewarding for everyone. Former instructors and students often stay in touch, testifying to the lasting impact of their time at the centre. Hervé also makes it a point of honour to personalise the educational projects for school groups, guaranteeing an experience that is adapted and rewarding for each class. The aim is to create individuals who are happy in their personal and professional lives. This down-to-earth and humane approach is what makes the Port-Blanc water sports centre a place where we really cultivate the essentials.
