Parole de Breizh, invites you to discover the Côte de Granit Rose through encounters with those who live Brittany, transform it and cultivate it. These ambassadors are craftsmen, artists, producers… but above all, inhabitants of the Trégor. They love the Côte de Granit Rose and explain why growing the essentials is so important!

Anthony Matynia, originally from Alsace, grew up in a life punctuated by déplacements, due to his father’s military postings. This nomadic lifestyle instilled in him a great capacity for adaptation and a boundless curiosity. After a preparatory class, Anthony headed for the chemistry school in Toulouse. He felt that international exposure was important, which led him to spend a year at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. Afterwards, he continued his studies with a doctorate in phytoremediation à Grenoble, in collaboration with the célèbre University of Berkeley in California.

A rich and varied career

Anthony began his career as a researcher at the CNRS, before moving into the public works sector. He worked on the management of networks and infrastructure in Périgueux and Tours, focusing on major state-owned rivers such as the Creuse, Vienne and Loire. In 2009, he joined the corps des ingénieurs des travaux publics de l’État, a decisive turning point towards his current position. Since November 2023, Anthony has been head of the Phares et Balises de Bretagne Nord division. He oversees an area covering Ille-et-Vilaine and Côtes-d’Armor, with their 450 km of maritime côtes. His role is crucial in ensuring maritime safety, keeping lighthouses, beacons and other navigational aids in perfect working order. As the person in charge, Anthony is responsible for coordinating the agents who carry out the maintenance in the field. He spends one day a week accompanying the teams out to sea. The rest of the time, he is immersed in administrative management and project monitoring, whether technical, managerial or financial. He wears many hats and manages subjects as diverse as they are complex!
Êulating the Lighthouses and Beacons Division job means juggling many roles and responsibilities, going far beyond simply maintaining lighthouses.
Anchored in Brittany
Although originally from Alsace, Anthony found Brittany a real professional and personal anchor. Attracted by the quality of life and the landscapes of Brittany, he settled in Côtes-d’Armor with his partner, originally from Saint-Brieuc. Fascinated by his new environment, he discovered the maritime culture and took up water sports. Accustomed to the mountains, he came from Grenoble and his parents live in the Pyrenees, where Anthony has been living close to the sea for the past year. The transition wasn’t without its surprises, but he quickly developed a passion for this environment that he knew little about. Being able to have warm relationships with the region’s inhabitants is a part of his job that he particularly enjoys. Although he jokes about the Breton climate, which he compares to the damp Irish climate he has lived in, Anthony has found a real balance here.

Cultivating the essential
What does the phrase « Cultiver l’essentiel » inspire in you?For Anthony, “cultivating the essential” means maintaining and enrichinghuman relationships. He places these ties, whether they be family or friends, at the centre of his life. In a world where the balance between personal and professional life is often difficult to find, he sees social relationships as a pillar of his well-being. For him, this essential element is first and foremost to be found in the private circle;. Even if he is passionate about his work and holds a demanding position, he is careful to make time for his family, friends and close circle. The most important thing is also to cultivate the quality of the exchanges with those around him, to maintain a sincere and enriching closeness in both the personal and professional spheres.
