This former chapel of the Lords of Trogorre invites you to discover the story behind its transformation from a simple chapel to a parish church. Below the original village, the Saint-Emilion valley was home only to the village of Saint-Milion, with its inn and a few houses.
It was therefore the former chapel of the Lords of Trogorre, who belonged to the de Plougras family and had pre-eminence over the chapel of Saint-Emilion. The de Plougras family bore their coat of arms in a shield on the eaves of the south transept. It became a parish church on 1 May 1856 by order of the Bishop of Tréguier and Saint-Brieuc, Mgr Le Mée, but did not become a permanent parish church until 1888. It is a 16th century building, as the inscription under the tower pediment indicates.
The spire of the bell tower was struck by lightning and rebuilt in 1875. In 1890, the cemetery was moved. The floor, covered with granite slabs, was laid in 1889 by Paul Décot et fils. The sandstones on the choir side came from the church of Saint-Jean-du-Baly in Lannion and were donated and installed in 1902. The roof was repaired in 1912 and the bell tower in 1921.
It is only open on request from the Town Hall.
A heritage fact sheet is available from the tourist office.
