The church is dedicated to Notre-Dame. It was rebuilt in the 3rd quarter of the 19th century to plans by architect Paul-François Courcoux.
It retains its tower, the base of which dates from 1760, as well as 16th-century features such as the south porch door surmounted by a Gothic archivolt. The sacristy dates from 1865.
The bell tower was blown down by a storm on the night of February 10-11, 1881 and rebuilt immediately.
The church has preserved some interesting furnishings: a high altar with sculpted and painted decoration dating from the 17th century, classified as a Monument Historique since 1911.
The multi-lobed granite baptismal font with lead basin dates from the late 15th or early 16th century. They have been listed as a Monuments Historiques object since 1983.
The tabernacle consists of a three-tiered tower pierced by niches separated by twisted columns bearing vines and housing 14 statuettes.
Caouënnec, formerly a trêve of Cavan in the diocese of Tréguier, became an autonomous parish in 1804.
The church is open on request from the town hall.
It is located on a hiking trail.
