The Costarmoricains meal

For a party like no other!

In the midst of all the laughter and chatter at the end of the year, one thing strikes you: how about an aperitif?

No need to equip yourself with armour and swords, just picks and snail forks! A traditional and essential part of any New Year’s Eve party, appetisers are making a comeback.

But which ones should you choose?

Blinis, savoury macaroons, mini-quiches…? We’ve got much better choices for you. In the Côtes d’Armor, we cultivate the essentials, and that obviously means promoting our local producers. For the start of this meal, we recommend that you discover Châpeau l’escargot, a snail farmer who will undoubtedly be able to guide you through the preparation of snails and the choice of stuffing or spreads. You can find his products at markets or directly at his farm. To accompany your snails, why not opt for rillettes de la mer? The family-run company Breizh’illettes creates traditional preserves from scratch in the Trégor region. Fresh, local produce guaranteed! What’s on your menu? More like scallop rillettes or mackerel rillettes?

You can also find Breizh’illettes preserves in the various Tourist Offices.

You can also buy your snail hat products at the Lannion Christmas market.

Oysters, or… oysters!

The iodised, pearly pleasure of the festive season

This time of year reminds us how much we love to share. So why not try some oysters on New Year’s Eve? As well as their refined taste, oysters have many health benefits. Eating oysters is thought to limit the impact of cholesterol and cardiovascular disease, and to help combat the effects of ageing. What’s more, they contain more vitamins than fish and meat. So why not take the plunge?

How do you choose and eat oysters?

Let’s get started! We’ve found four oyster farmers in Brittany to serve you delicious oysters. On the Côte de Granit Rose, l’Atelier de l’huître offers direct sales from their workshop; their smiles, their welcome and their advice are sure to win you over. Not far from Tréguier are three oyster farms: l’Huîtrier,Bretagne Huîtres and Huîtres Chaumard. For each of them, the word family is sacred: oyster farming is passed down from father to son. They welcome you mainly at the markets, but also for direct sales.

What to serve with your oysters?

There are several ways to accompany your oysters. First of all, you need to decide whether you prefer to eat them raw or cooked. If they are warm, choose foie gras, herb butter or leek fondue. Cold, on the other hand, they go very well with a classic shallot sauce or a few drops of lemon.

Once again, we’re delighted to share the addresses of these nuggets with you! Find their location below:

A festive accompaniment

New Year’s Eve without a drop of magic in your glass? Unthinkable! To accompany the various stages of your New Year’s Eve celebrations, how about trying some new wines or spirits? Here’s our selection of wine shops just for you! David and Thomas welcome you to their shop, La Cave des Halles, in Lannion. If you’re looking for great French wines, this is the place to go. You can also visit the Pélican cellars to take advantage of their invaluable advice to accompany all the dishes on your New Year’s Eve menu with finesse.
At the end of the meal, without going overboard, take the time to savour two fingers of whisky with iodised flavours from the distilleries of Trégor: Armorik with its multiple maturations from the Warenghem distillery or Kornog, a peaty whisky from the Celtic Whisky distillery, based on the Lézardrieux peninsula. If you’re not a whisky fan, we recommend the La Roche effet mer gin from the Ar Roc’h distillery in La Roche-Jaudy or the Jabadao arranged rums made from Guatemalan rum and, above all, from the maceration of local fruit and produce.
