Because of their architectural and historical quality, the chapel of Christ, its cross and the floor of the plinth have been listed as Historic Monuments since 2015.
Lord Guillaume de Coatléven (whose name literally means ‘Wood of Léven’ or ‘wood of the earth levee’) is the founder of the church of Trégrom, along with the Lord of Tonquédec, who had pre-eminence over this chapel in the 16th century. Sold as national property during the French Revolution, the building was acquired by the commune of Trégrom in 1808. It is still owned by the commune.
In addition to its statuary, the chapel of Christ houses a remarkable polychrome wooden tribune (17th century - early 18th century), made from an assembly of carved panels taken from a former rood screen (16th century). The rood screen has been listed as a Historic Monument since 2004.
The pardon of the chapel of Christ de Trégrom is organised for the feast of the Ascension: mass is followed by a long procession with banners, crosses and the statue of the crowned Virgin (kept in the church of Saint-Brandan), followed by a bonfire at dusk and a communal meal.
Every year in mid-August, the placître of the chapel of Christ is also the venue for events organised by the local festivities committee on the theme of old trades.
