Nature road trip on the Presqu’île Sauvage | Day 3

This final day begins with a visit to the Sillon de Talber nature reserve and continues up the Jaudy estuary to the magnificent Kerdalo gardens before reaching Tréguier.

Day 3

Day 3

Stage 1

Sillon de Talbert nature reserve

The Sillon de Talbert is a long strip of sand and pebbles that stretches for more than 3km in the middle of the sea. Its size makes it a unique site in Europe and it is home to a very rich ecosystem. Numerous birds can be observed here, some of which, such as the Grand Gravelot, have chosen this site to nest.

The Regional Nature Reserve that extends around the Sillon de Talbert is a particularly sensitive site, so it is important to respect the rules of conservation that apply there as well as the preventive signage.

It is possible to walk along the Sillon but beware, the breach that has formed 400m from the start prevents passage when the sea rises. Check the crossing times to avoid getting stuck on the wrong side

Stage 2

Picnic at Créac'h Maout

The old semaphore at Creac’h Maout offers a remarkable panorama of the wild coastline with its moors and rocks. Thanks to the panoramic table, you can locate lighthouses, islands, surrounding points and directions. This site was also the scene of a massacre in 1944, a reminder that the Presqu’île was a hotbed of the Resistance.

Below the building, a picnic table a little sheltered from the wind invites you to stop and have something to eat.

Step 3

Covered walkway at Men ar Rompet

As you continue up the Jaudy estuary, you will pass the covered alleyway of Men ar Rompet, which means “stone of the druids”. There is a small path leading up to it, with a beautiful view over the mouth of the Jaudy. You can see the Croix lighthouse, the Ile à Poule, which gives its name to a small beach nearby, and Port Béni, a site of remarkable geology where Saint Maudez, the famous healer from Ireland, is said to have landed.

Step 4

Kerdalo Gardens

Situated on the banks of the Jaudy, the park extends over a vast area around the Manoir. Come and discover these remarkable gardens and let yourself be amazed by this verdant picture that is sure to inspire you!
